Monday saw one cottage out and one back in and one cleaner up at our peak district cottages. An unusual day as Chris had arranged for the bottom of the drive to be re tarmacked so we had to make different arrangements for guests to leave the property. With the ground being so dry (nearly two weeks with no rain) we were able to open one of the gates in Andrew’s fields so guests could use that. We took our laundry to Haddon Grove Farm for collecton. Luckily the dustcart was able to collect as normal before work had started. The work started just after 11am and finished just after 3pm. The picture below shows work in progress. Our new guests were happy to drive across the fields to reach us, a novel way of arriving! Now that daylight hours are longer guests are staying out longer so many guests were able to leave and return using the drive. In the evening I went to Over Haddon for indoor bowls and Chris went to Bakewell for the Photographic Society. On Tuesday I had planned to got to Matlock in the afternoon to get some shopping but it was one of those days when the phone kept ringing and emails arriving. I won’t complain as it meant we had a few more bookings. One cleaner up as one cottage was due in later in the day. Chris needed to pop to Buxton in the afternoon so I went too for a break and while we were there we bought a new microwave. In the evening the guests arrived about 8.30, they have been before. Wednesday was one of those ‘down’ days. Two cancellations and the work associated with them and a non working DVD player – those gremlins again! One cleaner up and one cottage arrived later in the afternoon. It was a pleasant afternoon so Chris set about cleaning some of the benches outside. The good weather looks set to continue into the weekend. Not good for farmers, even our fields already have cracks in them that you wouldn’t expect to see until summer.
