An autumnal walk

IMG_7418Wednesday 21st October was threatening to be a wet day at our Bolehill Cottages near Bakewell (see here) but luckily the rain passed through overnight so it turned into a mild day for the time of year although it remained overcast.  Jobs around the house in the morning.  After lunch I went to Sainsburys in Matlock to stock up on store cupboard goods.  Cottage arrived just before 8pm, they have been before.  Like Wednesday the forecast for Thursday improved so instead of a dull day we had a lovely sunny day.  No departures or arrivals and a few odd jobs around vacant cottages in the morning.  Mark from the tea room joined us for coffee, they are unlikely to open again now until spring.  After lunch we went to the Chatsworth Garden Centre to pick up some bulbs and autumn colour for the courtyard.  As it was nice we then drove over to Edensor where we parked and had a short walk through Chatsworth park with Smudge.  We have decided that this year has seen some of the best autumn colours for a few years so we had to make the most of it before the first gales blow the remaining leaves away.  We probably only walked a couple of miles, first along the Edensor side of the park then headed towards the river and along to the bridge passing lots of deer on the way.  Back to Edensor then went down to the recycling centre at Darley Dale.  There was plenty of police activity in the area, we weren’t sure if it was because there was already a VIP at Chatsworth or if it was in preparation for Prince Charles’s visit on Friday.  Back to the farm shop to pick up some tea then home.  Enjoy the photos.
